Botox Portland: Pre-treatment Recommendations

Botox Near Me

Botox is my most popular service. I believe this is the case because it is effective, accessible, and with little to no downtime. As with any medical-grade treatment, bruising can happen. In most cases, the bruises last a couple of days and most bruises can be easily covered with makeup.

Here are some pro tips to avoid potential bruising:

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! When you are drinking enough water, your skin is more likely to have proper hydration levels and this supports wound healing (1). You want to get about 11 cups of water in a day to maintain proper hydration (2).

Take Arnica 30 C homeopathic tablets 3 pellets, 3 times a day, for 3 days before and after treatment. The evidence does not consistently show that homeopathic arnica is effective, however there are studies showing that it works (3). Given that arnica is readily available, inexpensive, and safe, it is reasonable to initiate prior-to and after treatment for those who bruise easily or are concerned about bruising.

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your treatment. Alcohol makes it harder for the blood to clot which increases bruising risk (4).

Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil, and gingko for about one week prior to your treatment. These medications increase bleeding and bruising (5).
