As we move through the first month of the year, I find myself sitting in a new kitchen (new to me), coffee in hand, reflecting on the season behind me. This past year brought big life changes—getting engaged, moving homes, and spending countless hours in clinical practice. It’s been full in the best way.

Through it all, I continue to return to the Principles of Naturopathic Medicine as my guide. While not every aesthetic treatment aligns perfectly with these principles at all times, I believe strongly in pausing, reflecting, and making sure my work continues to move toward integrity, excellence, and alignment with my values.

Recently, I had the opportunity to present at a conference focused on integrating aesthetics into naturopathic practice. My talk centered on microneedling, PRP/PRF, and chemical peels, and it gave me the chance to revisit the why behind these treatments—the physiology, the healing mechanisms, and the outcomes we can realistically expect.

In this post, I want to focus specifically on microneedling. By the end, you’ll understand:

  • How microneedling works

  • What results to expect from microneedling

  • Why microneedling aligns so naturally with naturopathic medicine

If you’re searching for microneedling near me and want a treatment that supports your skin’s natural healing process, this is a great place to start.

How Microneedling Works

Microneedling—also known as collagen induction therapy—uses very fine, sterile needles to create tiny, controlled micro-injuries on the surface of the skin. These micro-injuries are intentional and precise, and they signal the body to activate its natural wound-healing response.

As the skin heals, it releases growth factors that stimulate the production of:

  • New collagen and elastin, making the skin thicker, firmer, and more resilient

  • New blood vessels, improving circulation, oxygen delivery, and overall skin vitality

  • A stronger skin barrier, helping the skin retain moisture and stay hydrated

Over time, this process improves skin texture and tone and supports long-term skin health. The collagen produced through microneedling can continue to benefit the skin for several years.

What Outcomes to Expect From Microneedling

Because microneedling works by calling on the body’s innate ability to heal itself, results develop gradually and improve with consistency.

Medical literature shows that when microneedling is performed as a series of treatments, patients can expect:

  • Reduction in fine lines and wrinkles

  • Decreased appearance of pores

  • Smoother, more even skin texture

  • Improvement in acne scars and other textural irregularities

Rather than forcing change, microneedling allows the skin to regenerate and reorganize itself, which is why results tend to look natural and age-appropriate.

How Microneedling Aligns With Naturopathic Medicine

Microneedling falls under the category of bioregenerative treatments. This means we are not replacing tissue or masking concerns—we are stimulating the body’s own regenerative capacity.

This approach aligns beautifully with the naturopathic principle of supporting the healing power of nature. Microneedling works with the skin’s biology, not against it, making it an excellent option for patients seeking effective yet thoughtful aesthetic care.

To me, microneedling represents the intersection of science and nature—where evidence-based medicine and respect for the body’s innate intelligence come together in a clinically meaningful way.
