If you are looking to tighten the neck and add definition to the jawline without surgery then a Nefertiti Neck lift in Portland is for you!  My clients have been loving this treatment because it has zero downtime and results are effective yet subtle.

I have been integrating this technique for some time and I was further inspired after listening to Dr. Michael Kane on one of my new favorite podcasts, Inside Aesthetics.  He reports that when we keep the platysma muscle relaxed, it can slow down the neck’s rate of aging!

The Nefertiti Neck Lift is named after the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, who was known for her particularly beautiful neck.  In the Nefertiti lift, we introduce neurotoxin such as Botox into the platysma muscle.  The platysma is a thin and superficial muscle that covers the entire neck and lower face (1).  You can feel the platysma by resting your fingers across your neck, just above the collarbone and pulling your mouth into a deep smile.  You’ll feel it activate in your neck as it contracts.  Banding of the platysma is a classical sign of the aging neck and happens likely from weakening of the neck fascia (2).

The platysma is a muscle of facial expression and acts as a depressor, or one that pulls downwards, particularly on the mouth (3).  When we introduce Botox into the muscle, it relaxes and lifts the overlying tissue.  This effect tightens and elongates the neck, and because the muscle extends from the neck and into the lower face, we get added jawline definition. On average, 30-50 units are required for this technique and results last about 3 months.

This is a simple intervention that can have a big impact.  If you're interested in trying this out, bring it up at your next Botox appointment and we can discuss your candidacy.  You can also link to schedule through the website.

Thanks for reading and for trusting me with your aesthetic care.

With love,
Heather
